Is it free to try?
Yes. The studio is free and needs no account. Build and preview as many characters as you like. You only sign in when you want to export.
What do I get when I export?
Vector characters export as SVG files. Fur, plush and glossy material characters export as PNG stills. Both also have animated React components and prompts for your AI coding agent with the component code included. Material animations use WebGL; a PNG works anywhere you can display an image.
Can I make a fluffy, dot-eyed character like OpenAI’s Dots?
You can design your own dot-eyed character with rounded shapes, furry or plush materials, colours and lighting. faces is an independent editor, unaffiliated with OpenAI. It does not import Dots or provide official OpenAI characters. Export your own design as a PNG or an animated React component for your website.
Can I use the characters in commercial projects?
Yes. With the Export plan you can use exported characters in personal and commercial work: websites, apps, products and client projects. You cannot resell the characters on their own, for example as an icon set or asset pack.
What happens if I cancel?
The plan is $3.99 a month and you can cancel at any time in Settings. You keep export access until the end of the period you paid for. Everything you already exported is yours to keep using.
What is the crew for?
The crew are line-art status mascots for AI agents and developer tools. Each one has six moods: idle, thinking, talking, shipped, error and asleep. Show one beside a running task and people can see its state at a glance.
Will the animation slow my site down?
Animations pause off screen and respect reduced motion. Vector characters render as SVG. Fur, plush and glossy characters use WebGL, so performance depends on the device and how many you display at once. Use a PNG still when you want a lightweight image without a graphics runtime.
